ActforPal Distributes Scholarships to 19 Master’s Degree Finalists in Gaza
ActforPal announces the award of semester tuition scholarships to 19 postgraduate students at three universities in Gaza. Selected from almost 600 applications by highly qualified students on the basis of their grades, progress and personal statements, the scholarship winners are from diverse fields:
- management, finance and business
- private and public law
- civil, electrical and geomatic engineering
- education
- linguistics and translation
- medical imaging and laboratory sciences
- physical therapy and critical care nursing
- applied statistics and
- hadith studies.
This is the first group of funding recipients we plan to support in their final stages of study as part of the ‘Student-at-Home’ scholarship programme, which aims at helping top students to complete their largely research-based postgraduate degrees.
This initiative by ActforPal is intended to support students remaining in Gaza despite Israel’s intentional destruction of all university campuses along with 85% of schools.
It is focused on those who started their programmes before October 2023, and who have faced interruptions to their studies, financial hardship, and loss of access to academic infrastructure, as well as internal displacement(s) and war conditions.
We acknowledge that the reconstruction of Gazan higher education will require long-term action. ActforPal is proud to have achieved this first step towards rebuilding higher education in Gaza and will be following it with other initiatives with the support of its members.
